The Territory

Alba is the capital of the Langhe — founded as a Roman settlement (Alba Pompeia) on the Tanaro river, today it's the heart of one of the world's most celebrated wine regions: Langhe, Roero and Monferrato have been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2014.

The grape that dominates this land is Nebbiolo, which gives rise to the area's two signature wines: Barolo, often called "the king of wines," and the more elegant Barbaresco, grown on the marl soils east of Alba. Alongside them, everyday Dolcetto d'Alba, and Barbera, which has grown enormously in quality. The Roero, just across the river, offers the whites — above all Arneis.

Riding here means passing, every day, through some of the most photographed vineyards in the world — and the small villages that have guarded them for generations.

About Me

I'm Ilaria — Bike Trip Leader since 2012, freelance trip designer since 2018. Born in Piedmont, I now live in Turin.

I started guiding cycling groups more than ten years ago, and I haven't stopped since: I've worked with some of the biggest international tour operators, taking American and Canadian travelers to discover Italy by bike. The Langhe is the first region I've mapped in full detail — every road, every winery, every climb, I've ridden it myself before recommending it to you.

BikeTourDesigner comes from a simple idea: I don't want to sell you a GPX file. I want to give you the confidence of knowing that someone has already ridden that road, already talked to that restaurant, already worked out where it's worth stopping — so you arrive in Italy and think about nothing but riding.
